About Canada 1867

Welcome to Canada 1867, my little corner of the Canadian political blogosphere

This blog focuses on all things related to the world of Canadian politics, with an emphasis on federal political affairs.

The blog articles presented here are intended to be passionate, bold, and well developed arguments, which touch on issues such as parliamentary politics, Canadian federalism, bilingualism, the monarchy, as well as Canadian culture and identity.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have been a member of the Liberal Party of Canada since May 2011. However, I am not concerned with partisan rhetoric and will not shy away from criticizing the federal Liberals, or any other party or politician for that matter. As a political analyst, I am strictly interested in what I truly believe is in Canada’s best interest, taken from a centrist ideological point of view.

The blog's name, Canada 1867, was chosen to reflect my strong belief in the vision of Canada that was first put forth by some of the Fathers of Confederation, notably George-Étienne Cartier. That vision being a more confederalist nature for Canada, respecting the clear division powers between the federal and provincial governments; contrary to a more centralized federalism, which has been the tendency throughout Canada's history and a constant source of conflict.

I humbly invite you to review my blog posts, and please feel free to leave comments or send feedback, both of which would be very much appreciated. Ultimately, I would like to develop this blog into a forum for intelligent, engaging and thought provoking political debate. However, if you do leave a comment, I ask that you please be respectful to others and follow standard netiquette.

Thank you for your visit,

Benjamin Berman
